I have so many wonderful memories of the Newcomers of San Antonio, especially how quickly our organization grew and the desire to be a part of this energetic, supportive and creative group who were from different backgrounds and states. We bonded, planned, and celebrated together in so many ways. Participation was always without question over the top and we were the envy of the previous Newcomers group. I still use the cookbook that we authored which is literally falling apart from use. Each time I pick a recipe I have memories of that particular person.
It was such an honor to serve as the second president because of the enthusiasm and growth of our group. I remember one of our meetings held at the historic Menger Hotel featuring guest speaker, Mayor Henry Cisneros who later became Senator Cisneros in President Clinton’s administration. Sitting next to this handsome man was exciting and to top it off he picked my name for the door prize which was incidentally for Houlihan’s restaurant. Fun memories! I think the best part of this group was the closeness and how if someone was experiencing a personal problem, someone would notice and be supportive. This is the ultimate of friendship and camaraderie. We sure had many creative social and educational gatherings, too, and created so many memories.
I wish you wonderful friendships and the best of times as you enjoy and create your own unique memories while continuing the legacy of the Newcomers of San Antonio. May you all have a blessed Christmas season.
