Dan and I moved to San Antonio in June of 1980 as he took a job teaching at the Dental School as a Professor of dentistry. My goal was to complete my Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. I was pregnant with baby #1 and we knew only a few people in San Antonio. Dan saw a very tiny advertisement in the paper about the formation of a Newcomers of San Antonio club. The first gathering was in early 1981. The first gathering was at the Turtle Creek club off of Wurzbach. A perfect place for our first meeting. I remember meeting some wonderful women at that first gathering. And it all began there, with the next few meetings pulling together a board, and beginning to consider the special interest groups. I was elected as the 3rd President of the fledgling Newcomers of San Antonio. This was ’83-84’. I was pregnant with baby #2, so my year was definitely eventful. The day after I presided over the April meeting I gave birth to our second girl. I was surrounded by amazing women and with our social experiences, their husbands. We had a blast! As I rolled off being the President, I then volunteered to be the Chair of the Wine Tasting group!!! What fun we had with that Dan and I met some amazing people, many of whom are lifelong friends. As a very young President, I remember learning great life lessons from the women who blazed the way as the starters of Newcomers of San Antonio. This club will always remain so near and dear to my heart. I hope your experiences are as gratifying as mine were.
