2015-2017 Ali Heller Newcomers of San Antonio has been a blessing for me and others who have joined this great organization. We’re kindred spirits discovering our new town together. My first event was a coffee- I still had boxes to unpack but I had my priorities! Then my navigation system sent me in the wrong direction, but I didn’t give up. When I arrived, the group was so welcoming and I immediately signed up for many interest groups. Soon – two months later – I was asked to fill a vacancy on the Board, serving for six years including two as President 2015-2017.. We had many adventures with On The Road Again including tours of Toyota, SAWS, and a glass-bottom boat tour in San Marcos.
Our luncheons took us to new venues – The Veranda and Biga on the Banks as well as old favorites – Silo and The Grill at Leon Springs (hopefully it will be rebuilt after the fire this spring). Each of our luncheons included wonderful speakers such as Mayor Ivy Taylor and reps from Park and Recreation. Many times our speakers provided a first look at upcoming events in San Antonio. All of this was made possible by the talented Board members and volunteers who head up Interest Groups.
